Skipping anime in light of the fact that its not well known enough?we all have been there. Try not to stress I have you back
here's some criminally underrated anime that deserves a second
Watch!!!
15. ANGELS OF DEATH
Angels of Death is a series that is based on a rather obscure video
game and not much else.
As a result, it's not surprising that the series has remained
relatively unknown outside of those who have played the game.
But it's a surprisingly compelling series from the start.
You're thrown into a mystery that immediately sends chills up your
spine. This series has so many unanswered questions that you'll need to
watch the next episode, and the next, and the next...
Because the stories vary so much, there is no true hero or antagonist.
Zack and Angel, the protagonists, take you on a wild ride filled with
crazy characters and a mystery of missing memories.
It could have been better in some areas, but overall it's a unique
series.
14. SPACE DANDY
It's safe to say that this is a bizarre series.
With some oddities and randomness, I find it easy to believe that this
slipped through the cracks of anime pop culture.
Still, there are a lot of interesting things to look into in the
series.
There are also the various worlds Dandy visits and the characters he
meets. These are a lot of fun for creative writers or artists who get
their inspiration from anime shows.
As random and wacky as the series is, I think it has some good
character moments and thoughtful scenes as well.
This is the type of show you watch for entertainment or to experiment
with new creative ideas.
13. HELL GIRL
I'll admit that Hell Girl has grown in popularity over the years, but
there was a time when this anime was definitely underrated and
unknown.
Mostly because there were bigger animes out at the time that
overshadowed this one.
It takes an interesting look at people seeking vengeance as a horror
series. Hell Girl is essentially someone who can be summoned at midnight
for those who want to send someone to hell.
There is a cost to everything.
That is what makes the series so compelling. Each episode features a
different storey, but it explores a wide range of ideas, psyches, and
endings.
It also ties together the mystery of Hell Girl/Enma Ai.
12. DEATH PARADE
Are you intrigued by the concept of purgatory and life after death?
Then you'll enjoy Death Parade.
This is a completely different take on death, set in a world where
there is no heaven or hell, but rather a bar to decide your fate in the
afterlife. And a very thought-provoking one at that.
The series isn't as well known because, in my opinion, it caters to a
smaller audience. However, once you start watching, you can't help but
be drawn in by the mystery and general dark style.
It's a very character-driven show that plays on human nature and has a
mystery involving its protagonists.
There is no doubt that the series is dark, but that is one of its main
draws, in my opinion.
11. SAMURAI FLAMENCO
A young man aspires to be a superhero.
A fairly standard shounen concept, but what distinguishes this one is
that Masayoshi Hazama has no special abilities and frequently gets
himself into trouble.
It may appear to be a wacky comedy with an unlucky protagonist at
first, but the series shows solid development as it progresses.
This is a show where you have no idea what to expect. That is what
makes it both perplexing and wonderful. It all depends on what you
want from an anime series.
10. THE 12 KINGDOMS
Inuyasha is undoubtedly the most popular fantasy/historical anime,
but it is far from the only one. The 12 Kingdoms is an
underappreciated gem based on the same-named manga. While the manga
follows a variety of characters, the anime focuses on Yoko Nakajima, a
redhead girl who is transported from Japan to another world and
discovers she is an empress!
This series, inspired by Chinese mythology, is a little unusual for
your average anime fan, but it's fantastic for fans of high fantasy.
Yoko is a courageous female protagonist who works hard to earn the
title of Emperess of the Kingdom of Kei.
9. MUSHI - SHI
Mushi-shi is a slow-paced anthology series that follows the adventures
of Ginko, a man. The world is inhabited by an ethereal spirit known as
Mushi, who interacts with ordinary humans going about their daily lives.
Ginko can see these Mushi and has made it his mission to assist those
who are affected by their negative effects. There isn't much of a plot,
and instead the storey focuses on the lives of the people Ginko assists.
It foregoes action and suspense in favour of beautiful animation and
small-scale storytelling, and it moves at a leisurely pace that allows
you to soak in the atmosphere.
8. BEN - TO
Ben-To is a ridiculous harem anime about bento box brawls. What's the
big deal about bento boxes? Of course, they're half-priced. Bento
brawls, on the other hand, have rules, and if Y Sat wants those bento
boxes, he'll have to learn and follow them. The fights are essentially
a melee free-for-all in which chopsticks are thrown and tactics can
become devious.
7. EGO PROXY
How refreshing to find a cyberpunk theme that isn't overused.
Because Ergo Proxy is a rather complex piece, I can understand why it
is a lesser-known anime. It does, however, have some fantastic artwork
and a fairly unique storey.
With its eclectic mix of genres and setting in a post-apocalyptic world
complete with elaborate "domes"/cities and humanoid robot beings, the
series could be described as experimental.
The show takes you on a journey in which you either fall or settle into
its depths.
It's a storey about self-discovery, with some romance thrown in for
good measure.
6. MONSTER
Monster is not a fantasy-themed storey in which the hero embarks on a
quest to defeat a large ass monster. It's about a brilliant brain
surgeon, Tenma Kenzo, who chose to operate on a boy named Johan as a
humanitarian act, despite being ordered to operate on someone else
with a higher social status. But, unbeknownst to him, the boy he
rescued is a genetically/psychologically engineered, deranged psycho
evil murderer. As a result, Monster.
5. PARANOIA AGENT
Street assaults, victims, detectives, and a mysterious "Bat Boy" (AKA
"Lil' Slugger") bring them all together in Paranoia Agent. If you like
dark thrillers, you'll enjoy this anime because it has a lot of
satirical and existential paranormal elements.
Although Paranoia Agent had a brief run on Adult Swim, it is not an
anime that comes up in casual conversation or receives the attention
it deserves.
4. EDEN OF THE EAST
There must be an infinite number of anime with a survival
theme.
This one is a little different. It's a survival game, not just a
survival theme.
Takizawa Akira, a young man, and 12 other contestants are tasked with
using 10 billion yen to save Japan.
The series provides an intriguing mix of survival, politics, and
psychological suspense as it depicts how various characters are
affected in this "free for all game."
The series has a lot of depth and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I wish I had found out about it sooner. Give the pilot a look and let
us know what you think.
3. MORIBITO : THE GUARDIAN OF THE SPIRIT
This underappreciated series features a strong female lead and an
intriguing plot.
It's a storey about impending doom, a savior's call, a
demon-possessed prince, and a female mercenary tasked with protecting
him.
These elements alone pique my interest.
It's not every day that you come across a truly unique female
protagonist like Balsa. Maybe a little too much praise, but this is
essentially a reversal of the "rescue the princess" scenario, and it's
a welcome change.
The series was not previously given much attention, but I believe it
deserves a brief mention here.
2.TOKYO MAGNITUDE 8.0
This anime is about a young boy who is forced to grow up quickly due
to trauma. This is a fairly common theme, but it is taken to a whole
new level here.
In this storey, a young girl named Mirai is forced to learn how to
survive alongside her younger brother in the face of an earthquake of
magnitude 8.
In terms of visual impact, this anime stands out from the rest of the
entries. Especially given that this show was created in 2009, just two
years before the 2011 earthquake that measured 9.0 on the Richter
scale.
Without a doubt, this is an emotional roller coaster that packs a lot
of punch in just eleven episodes.
1. DRIFTERS
Drifters is an anime about historical warriors known as 'drifters' who
are transported to a fantasy kingdom by a shadowy organisation that
monitors their activities. It's unclear who this organisation is or
why they've brought the Drifters into this world. It appears to have
something to do with how being from different cultures and having
knowledge of battlefield tactics helps Drifters bring innovation to
this fantasy kingdom known as Orte.
Shimazu Toyohisa and Nasu no Yoichi, two main characters drawn from
different time periods of Japanese battlefields, join forces with none
other than Oda Nobunaga. For those who are unfamiliar, Nobunaga is a
legendary figure in Japanese history. He was cruel, but he possessed the
battle leadership and tactical ingenuity required to unite all of Japan,
bringing an end to the chaotic Warring States period and ushering in the
stability of the Tokugawa Period.
The main plot revolves around Oda Nobunaga figuring out how to make
guns (as he did in real life in Japan) and how to use the magic of
this fantasy world to his advantage in battle tactics. It's heavy on
epic fantasy battles, making it ideal for Game of Thrones fans.
